Partially because no one reads it, partially because all of its content is mirrored elsewhere anyway. If you want to follow my goings on, I'm trying to keep Twitter updated:

Snowbound intro revision complete

Sat Feb 04, 2012 5:51 pm

Alright, so I've finished writing the revised intro for Snowbound. All the changes from last week's post are in effect... but only for the first section. That part was completely rewritten, but the rest of Snowbound still reflects the original setting.

It shouldn't be too much trouble to basically run through all 200 existing scenes and rewrite lines, references, etc to bring everything in line to the new presentation, but it'll take a bit more time. Hopefully then the entire script will be ready for review and can move on to the third (fourth?) draft.

In the meantime, here's the latest by PentagonBuddy. It's Sophie's portrait:

Disconnect update

Wed Feb 01, 2012 11:46 pm

Hey all, I know it's been forever since we've made any progress on Disconnect, so I figured I'd update on the state of the project.

The "brief hiatus" in September became an indefinite hiatus for a couple reasons. First, I lost a few days of work on the (tangled) battle system, and then we all had other projects to work on (Zephyr Skies, Man's Best Friend, BunLegends, etc). After that, I was very reluctant to get back to work on the battle system. A CBS in 2K3 is spaghetti code by necessity. As it's almost unmaintainable, it's *really hard* to just pick these things back up without a lot of commitment.

However! This project is still alive. Except... we're migrating to RPGmaker VX Ace. A couple reasons why: We were never very far along in this game in terms of play length, in fact, only maybe five minutes. The battle system had the most work done, but replicating in VX will be so much easier. Scripts are hugely powerful compared to all the 2k/3 workarounds and make CBS creation about 10x easier. VX also supports a larger resolution so Dudesoft can draw battlers by hand. The only drawback is mapping, but Deckiller is confident that a combination of scripts and panorama mapping can make the Refmap look work in VX.

This doesn't mean we're resuming production immediately, but we'll be back to work shortly after the release of VX Ace English version. We all have projects to finish, and the delay should give us enough time to further plan Disconnect. Thanks for your support!

Snowbound setting changes

Wed Jan 25, 2012 4:14 am

This is almost for my own reference, but I'm finally going through the script again. The intro is being completely rewritten, and a few of the premise points changed around a bit. Here's the changes and their justifications:

The location of the school is now in south-central Alaska rather than Cape Cod.
Justification: A lot of people had issue with the premise that a school in New England could be snowed in for anything more than a few hours, especially with modern technology. In a choice between changing the geographical location and the time period, I opted to move the school. It also saves the complication of this whole blizzicane nonsense; we're only dealing with a blizzard now.

The name of the school is now the St. Magnus Academy for Young Researchers rather than the St. Magnus School for Math and Science.
Justification: It seems silly to put a math/science magnet school in the middle of nowhere. A science-only school seems a little more within the realm of possibility. It's really not that important.

The school is now for grades 9-12 rather than 7-12.
Justification: Was there ever a need for this in the first place? Calling everyone x-year or x-rank is complication for no good reason.

The protagonists are part of the biathlon team rather than the archery team.
Justification: It goes with the change in setting. Archery was always a little out there, so if that's the case, might as well make it interesting... The rifles don't play a role in the story, but then again, neither did archery...

A few characters are also getting their lines reexamined and rewritten if necessary, mainly Rebecca, Sophie, Lyra, and Sid.

Blog resurrection, PR campaign

Sat Jan 21, 2012 8:20 am

Alright, I've decided I'm trying something new with this blog and the rest of the WRPGs publicity stuff... Most likely no one's reading this so this is equally for my own reference.

WRPGs Site Blog: http://wombatrpgs.net/weblog.php?w=4
Currently dead, was used originally for blockbound-ish stuff. I'm just going to go ahead and post anything of length here, game design related or not. It will end up mirroring almost all game-related blog posts.

RMN blogs: http://rpgmaker.net/users/psy_wombats/games/
Currently hold all game-specific posts sans Snowbound, and Blockbound posts are hidden. This will hold game-specific posts and game-specific media. The usual, basically, even if content is mirrored elsewhere.

Snowbound blog: http://projectsnowbound.blogspot.com/
Currently has the Snowbound posts. I'll continue to update it, though it will be mirrored elsewhere, hopefully on RMN when the gamepage is accepted. Should also have release info. I want to make a separate blogsite for pretty much every major game... seems a bit more professional somehow.

Wombat Logic tumblr: http://wombatlogic.tumblr.com/
Currently empty. I'll post all the game posts in here as well as random stuff, probably a mirror of this current blog as well as reblogged crap.

WRPGs Twitter: https://twitter.com/#!/WombatRPGs
Currently posts media. I'll try and update this more with links to screenshots instead of just links to blog posts... Probably some minor status updates as well, sorted by #game.

LCPANES bugfix

Wed Jun 22, 2011 5:43 pm

As it turns out, there was a problem with the script (dumb typo) that caused endings 4-6 to be complete inaccessible. Instead, you got endings 7-9. Basically, a good 1/4 of the story was completely missing. Whoops. So this means that if you've been wondering how the hell to get endings 4, 5, and 6 this is the answer!

If you've played once already and are looking to replay without rechoosing everything again:

If you selected LICOZY at first big choice (ACLIBR, who to open communication with), the game thought you actually picked AVBRANDY after the second night. So if you want a different ending, play to the first choice and select LICOZY.

Both the online version and the download have been changed to reflect this. And a big thanks to NewBlack who found and helped isolate the problem.
